Understanding Compression Levels
PDF compression tools typically offer multiple levels. The right choice depends on your document and its destination. Using the wrong level either wastes space or degrades quality unnecessarily. Understanding each level helps you make the right choice every time.
Low Compression
Reduces file size by 10 to 30 percent. Quality is nearly indistinguishable from the original. Use for documents that will be professionally printed, archives that need maximum quality, and client deliverables where presentation matters most.
Medium Compression
Reduces file size by 30 to 60 percent. Quality remains very good for screen viewing. Use for business documents, email attachments, and everyday PDF sharing. This is the recommended default for most users.
High Compression
Reduces file size by 60 to 80 percent. Some quality loss is visible on close inspection. Use for email attachments with size limits, web uploads, and internal documents where perfection is less critical than file size.
Extreme Compression
Reduces file size by 80 to 95 percent. Quality loss is noticeable. Use for internal archives, draft documents, and situations where you need the smallest possible file regardless of quality.
